Council Meeting Highlights - March 6, 2024

Catch up with what happened at last weeks East Zorra-Tavistock Council Meeting with a quick read of the meeting highlights below. 

During the Meeting

• Council approved the request from the Tavistock Royals Hockey Club for an exception to the Municipal Alcohol Policy.
• Sean-Michael Stephen from Watson and Associates Economists Ltd. presented the draft Development Charges Background Study, and responded to questions and comments of Council and Staff regarding the Study. The next step is engagement with stakeholders on March 18, 2024. 
• Helmut Schneider from Prowind Renewables made a presentation to Council regarding a wind farm proposed on lands within East Zorra-Tavistock and Blandford-Blenheim, and responded to questions of Council.
• David Cunningham, representing Wind Concerns EZT, made a presentation to Council regarding concerns with wind farms, including the wind farm proposed by Prowind Renewables. Council deliberated and unanimously passed a motion declaring the Township as an unwilling host to wind turbine developments.

• The 2024 Budget and Tax Rate By-law was presented to Council, and approved. Due to some minor adjustments, the overall tax levy increase for 2024 was reduced to 7.25%, with 0.74% coming from assessment growth and the remaining 6.51% coming from a tax rate increase. 

• By-law  2024-09 – Innerkip Minor Ball Agreement, and By-law 2024-10 – Hickson Sports and Recreation were presented to Council, and approved.
• In conjunction with Town Hall Consulting, staff and Council participated in a Strategic Planning Session. 

Next Council Meeting

The next regularly scheduled East Zorra-Tavistock Council Meeting is set for Wednesday March 20, 2024 at 7:00pm.
