Council Meeting Highlights - June 7, 2023

During the Meeting
- Council received the City of Woodstock's request to establish a Boundary Adjustment Committee. Council passed a motion that before a discussion take place with the City of Woodstock regarding a boundary adjustment, that the Township's own Settlement Area Expansion and Secondary Plan exercise, along with the new Strategic Plan be completed first.
- A resolution from the Township of South-West Oxford calling for an end to homelessness was supported.
- Council provisionally adopted the Engineer's report regarding the McLean Drain 2023
- The Recreation Advisory Committee meeting minutes were discussed, as well as the Police Services Board meeting minutes. Staff were asked to follow up with Detachment Commander Hymers regarding fraud prevention seminars in the Township.
- Council approved the "R Zone" Policy to help promote respect and responsibility for residents and patrons of municipal facilities. Its goal is to create a positive, safe, and supportive environment for all members of the public and staff.
- Public Works reported that the annual gravel and dust suppressant applications have been completed, using different application techniques and application volumes. Council will receive a report in the fall regarding the results. Public Works staff also reported that garbage is being left along Township roads, ditches, and creeks, and is becoming a serious problem.
- Fire Chief Scott Alexander updated Council on training and inspection updates. A ceremony honouring firefighters with long service awards will be held on June 22, 2023 at Craigowan Golf Course.
2023 Operating and Capital Budget
Council passed the by-law and adopted the 2023 Budget and Tax Rates. The tax levy increased 8.87%, however, the tax rate increase was 4.49% over the previous year. East Zorra-Tavistock continues to have the second lowest tax rate in Oxford County.
