Municipal Consent
A Municipal Consent (MC) is the municipality's authorization for a utility to occupy a specific location within the Township's Right-of Way (ROW).
Standard utility corridors and alignments have been established, as detailed in the Township of East Zorra-Tavistock's Standard Drawings, to avoid conflicts between existing, proposed, and future utility and municipal infrastructure. MCs are only issued to companies or persons who have the authority to construct, operate and maintain their infrastructure within the ROW.
When Do I Need Municipal Consent?
Most proposed new utility installations within the municipal ROW require an MC, with the exception of emergency work ( defined as a loss of service by a utility that in the circumstances would be considered essential, so that absence of the service can reasonably be expected to result in an imminent or significant safety or environmental hazard, or imminent threat to the person or the public) or single service connections not requiring alteration of adjacent infrastructure.
All projects that require an MC must also obtain a Road Occupancy Permit.
How Do I Apply?
- Submit complete and accurate project drawing sets to mc@ezt.ca.
- The Township requires ten (10) business days to review MCs. Larger or non-standard submissions may require additional time.
- The approval of an MC is valid for a period of one (1) year from the date of issuance. If the work is not completed in its entirety within the one (1) year period, the Applicant must reapply for consent for the remaining work within the ROW.
- After the MC has been issued, a Road Occupancy Permit application is to be made. Ten (10) business days are required to process Road Occupancy Permit applications.
How Much Does It Cost?
There is no cost to submit an MC or Road Occupancy Permit.
