In an effort to get people to slow down when driving, the Township purchased two child silhouette "Please slow down" signs. These signs are being moved around to various areas in the Township as reminders for drivers to slow down.
Unfortunately, one sign was stolen from Hendershot Street, near the Pavilion entrance. Vandals needed to cut the security cable and break the cement base to steal the sign. The signs cost approximately $500.
A speed sign/warning trailer that the Township borrowed from the Township of Southwest Oxford was also vandalized, but fortunately the tape used to cover the posted speed limit did not damage the underlying sign.
Pedestrian safety and speeding is an ongoing concern and one of the issues most commonly brought to the Township's attention. It is frustrating when vandals compromise efforts to try to reduce speeds and increase safety for children and pedestrians. Not only does it affect community safety, it increases costs and diverts staff time from providing other programs and services.
If anyone has information on this theft please contact the OPP (Non Emergency #1 888 310-1122) or the Township Office (519-462-2697).
