Stay Safe! Stay Off The Ice!
The Township of East Zorra-Tavistock does not monitor the ice thickness of any stormwater ponds. Ice conditions are unknown and unpredictable. Stay safe, stay off the ice!
Stormwater ponds have an inlet and outlet pipe with water flowing much of the year. Moving water, water temperature changes due to vegetation, drainage, and fluctuating weather conditions leads to unknown, unpredictable and dangerous ice conditions.
If they can’t be used for recreation, what’s the point of stormwater ponds?
Stormwater ponds serve an important function in the Township of East Zorra-Tavistock’s stormwater management system. A stormwater pond has two main purposes. The first is for residential flood protection. The second is to improve the water quality of stormwater before it enters natural creeks and rivers.
